America just can't understand the idea of, community on a whole, people helping people. Instead they are so intrenched in the idea of "all for me and nothing for you", because they can't see the bigger picture. They can't grasp the idea that there are not jobs that provide liveable wages or the promise of advancement and health care, even if a person works their Ass off day in and day out. There are no level playing fields in American society. If you have the money to advance then you will, but if you don't have the cash you will remain on the bottom rungs hanging for dear life just to remain fed. So the uppers and followers of the upper class just keep spouting the phrase "there is equal opportunity for everyone to gain wealth and health, in America, if your willing to work for it". Which is a patently untrue statement if you've actually studied the economic divide, ethnic divide, sexual divide, or the American divide. And I say study, not in the sense of schools or strict education. I say it in terms of walking the streets and seeing with open eye's the complete divisions of the people, based on status.

Anonymous, what in the world are you talking about? "there are not jobs that provide liveable wages or the promise of advancement and health care"? Have you ever lived in another country and seen what it's like there? There is more economic freedom and advancement here than almost any other country.
And, "There are no level playing fields in American society. If you have the money to advance then you will, but if you don't have the cash you will remain on the bottom rungs hanging for dear life just to remain fed." Didn't our current president grow up mixed race and raised by a single mother in an unprivileged situation? Yes. The thing is that he was hardworking and he was smart. There are lazy people and there are unintelligent people. They don't advance. Sorry. Life's not fair ANYWHERE except for this bizarro world that you think exists somewhere else. But I've lived in 7 other countries and I can tell you that this is the fairest I have ever seen. There's advancement out there, but some lazy people don't want to start out on the low rung. Look at the immigrants who advance after starting on the low rung. They work hard because they TRULY know what it's like not to have any possibility for advancement. What's ruining America is the sense of ENTITLEMENT that you and others exude. People should help their families and neighbors, NOT have the government tell them how to "help." Get out of the U.S., open your eyes (not eye's) and see what it's like other places before you whine on here and make sweeping judgments. I'm sick of people jumping on the bandwagon and railing against the U.S. because it's the "in" thing for young people and academics to do.
